Community

Hello and a warm welcome to the community section of Destinationkildaretown.ie. Here in Kildare Town, we are very proud of our friendly community spirit.

Kildare Town offers a range of clubs and activities to get involved in, no matter what your age or interests, you are going to find an organisation that would welcome you.

The community of Kildare Town have been fortunate to see some new developments in recent years.

If you notice our locals out walking when you visit, they might just be walking  ‘The Tully’ route, which recently was named the Sli na Slainte route. This 5km walk (not too far from Kildare Village) provides a lovely scenic route and a friendly ‘hello’ from fellow walkers. The route is signposted and a starting point is in the car park area opposite the local parish church. The church is located down the path from Bolands Pub on the corner.

Teach Dara, a family and community centre is a new addition to our community, which provides an open door policy to anyone in the community who needs information or support. Why not pop into Teach Dara for a cuppa in the cafe area, while checking out the support services on the notice board.

Derby Festival time is a great time to experience some local festive celebrations. With some dancing on the street and a range of shows and bands performing, you’ll find that Kildare Town is the place to be after a day at the races.

THE HIVE is a new youth centre just opened in Kildare Town. THE HIVE is a county youth centre where young people can get involved in sporting activities, learn to play music in the purposely built music room or just hang out in the cafe area. It will be located on Academy street in the old St. James Academy school. Follow them on facebook https://www.facebook.com/hive.kildare

SOLAS BHRÍDE (Brigid’s light/flame) is a small Christian Centre , which has as its focus St. Brigid and Celtic Spirituality. We seek to unfold the legacy of Brigid of Kildare and its relevance for our world.
The centre is currently run from their home, a small house in Kildare where we welcomed up to 3,000 pilgrims/visitors in 2010 People come on pilgrimage to Kildare from all over the world. Now in 2016 a new purposely built centre is open. Check out http://www.solasbhride.ie/ for more information.
