‘CHURCH OF THE OAK’
A Contribution to the history of Kildare Town
Compiled and Edited by Mario Corrigan & Ger Kelly
Tuesday June 24th to Saturday June 28th – Open door time
‘Church of the Oak’ was published by The Grey Abbey Conservation Project, in December 2006, The Church of the Oak was the first comprehensive contribution to the history of Kildare Town in over 50 years. It physically ran to 240 Pages with some 200 captioned photographs of over 1500 people, at numerous social, sporting and workplace events and venues. Well researched articles on a wide range of subjects were augmented by more than seventy interesting articles from the Kildare Observer and the Leinster Leader from 1880 – 1979, items that made the headlines in Kildare Town over a period of 100 years. The purpose of the book was to promote the work of the group, a subsidiary of the local history group, Cill Dara Historical Society and all proceeds went towards raising awareness of the abbey and to promote and preserve the history and heritage of the town. It paved the way for a number of well-received local history publications in the town. As part of Kildare Derby Festival, Kildare Town Library will run a slideshow of photos from ‘CHURCH OF THE OAK’.
Everyone welcome.

Kildare Town Football Club Public Meeting
Wednesday 9th April at 7.15pm upstairs Silken Thomas
We’ve heard it too many times – “there are not enough things to do for young people in our town.” Kildare Town Football Club have asked me to let you know that they are holding a public meeting at 7.15pm, upstairs in the Silken Thomas, on Wednesday, 9th of April. With everyone’s support, they are considering an information day out at their grounds on derby day for all organisations that are involved with youths to give them a chance to display their services, activities, club etc. This is super way for the community to come together and let the young people know what’s there for them in Kildare Town. Please pass this on to as many contacts involved with young people in Kildare Town or to new services out there also. All welcome on the night.
