The Cloak on Dragons’ Den on Easter Sunday

RTÉ One at 9.30pm, Sunday, 20th April, 2014.

First up in the Den this week, we see two entrepreneurs employ some very unique and attention grabbing tactics when they deliver a theatrical pitch for their production The Cloak, an Irish musical based on the story of St. Brigid’s life. With 20 years experience in the entertainment industry, working in television, theatre and film, Padraig J. Dunne and his business partner, Anne Brain are looking for an investment of €100,000 for 10%. They arrive to the Den with members of The Cloak cast who provide an atmospheric and haunting background performance throughout their pitch. Described by Padraig as the ‘truly gritty story’ of St. Brigid’s life, The Cloak documents the pain, oppression and abuse endured by St. Brigid throughout her life. Padraig tells his potential investors that the show has been met with great enthusiasm by the public, receiving standing ovations on each night of its performance … The only question is, do they have what it takes to make the Dragons stand up and take notice?

Kildare Town Football Club Public Meeting

Wednesday 9th April at 7.15pm upstairs Silken Thomas

We’ve heard it too many times – “there are not enough things to do for young people in our town.” Kildare Town Football Club have asked me to let you know that they are holding a public meeting at 7.15pm, upstairs in the Silken Thomas, on Wednesday, 9th of April. With everyone’s support, they are considering an information day out at their grounds on derby day for all organisations that are involved with youths to give them a chance to display their services, activities, club etc. This is super way for the community to come together and let the young people know what’s there for them in Kildare Town. Please pass this on to as many contacts involved with young people in Kildare Town or to new services out there also. All welcome on the night.

PRESS LAUNCH

CELBRIDGE MANOR HOTEL, 21ST FEBRUARY 2014

Anne and Andrew Brain – Producers

Padraig J. Dunne – Writer/Director

The 2014 Tour of the stage production “The Cloak” was officially launched at the Celbridge Manor Hotel on Friday the 21st February last with over 200 guests in attendance.

“The Cloak”, a truly Irish story, brings to reality the epic life journey of the legendary St. Brigid and her mother Broicseach, showcasing singing, Irish dancing, a choir, a full orchestra and film, shot on location, highlighting Ireland’s unique landscape.

The Celbridge Manor Hotel has become the official “Home of the Cloak” and as such, are thrilled to be linked to such a talented show “Simply super launch night at the Manor enjoyed by all” explained Geraldine McGilvery, on behalf of Jeffrey C Leo, Managing Director of the Celbridge Manor Hotel.

The Cloak debuted in September 2013 in Kildare Cathedral, a four night sell out season that no doubt pleased the Producers Anne Marie and Andrew Brain and Director/Writer Padraig J. Dunne who have been on a whirlwind adventure since starting this project less than a year ago.

Andrew Brain, Producer said “The launch was a resounding success, “The Cloak” worked its magic again, this is not just another stage production but a phenomenon that is gathering its own momentum, the emotion of the evening was palpable, you could feel it in the air. The extracts from the production gave the invited guests a glimpse of what is to come, as one lady said “The tingles and tears are starting all over again”.

Andrew added “We thank Jeffrey C Leo and Bernard Brogan for their support, their team must be congratulated on the presentation of the Garden Room, the service and the refreshments supplied which reflected the quality and glamour of the evening”.

The talented cast performed three snippets from the show, Irish and contempory dance performed by dancers led by Kevin Lyster (playing the role of St. Patrick). Also sharing the stage was Nicola Gainey (new to the cast singing & playing the role of Broicseach) and the four lead singers Dawn Broughan, Therese Lynch, Orla Colleton and Niamh Curley performing the stunning song The Cloak and the beautiful new song The Moment, with guest  experiencing firsthand the magic that makes this production unique.

Lisa Nagle, Musical Director explains “The music within “The Cloak” is such an important aspect of the show. It’s about creating a connection between the story of St Brigid’s cloak and the emotions behind each one of the characters. It is simply stunning!”

Padraig Meredith, Composer of the original scores of “The Cloak” soundtrack explains “The press launch was our first chance to share one of the new songs from the show called The Moment. We look forward to sharing “The Cloak” with audiences throughout Ireland” Padraig added “It was also amazing to see the launch party silenced by the emotion within Nicola Gainey’s voice”.

The talented Nichola Kavanagh dances the role of St. Brigid and has captivated the audience with her energy and grace.  “I am delighted to accept the challenge of choreographing our sequences to a new original score of music and welcome our expanding troupe of experienced dancers, stunning vocalists and hard working crew. I am excited to be involved in such an electric fusion of talent in “The Cloak” 2014”

The production combines three main elements, film, dance and song which has never been done before and is an original idea from the talented Padraig J. Dunne   “A truly international audience observed the spreading of “The Cloak” tonight.  The emotion was obvious as the cast performed The Moment”.

Padraig added “We are heading into a busy week of filming, we have hardly time to breathe, 3 months of intensive rehearsals ahead is exhausting to imagine, but the blood is up and we will embrace the challenge, to make “The Cloak” the amazing show we know it is.

Filming will commence on Saturday the 1st March in Wexford Heritage Park, Sunday the 2nd March in Rathangan Wood and Friday the 7th March in NMCI Cork

facebooksquareSt. Brigids’ Cathedral, Kildare Town, Thursday the 26th, Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of September 2013 at 8pm.

“The Cloak” a newly commissioned stage-show written & directed by Irish artistic Director Pádraig J. Dunne showcases the remarkable life of St. Brigit of Kildare, which can only be described as “Spell Binding”. Pádraig J. Dunne who is known for his unique visionary techniques will include a stunning audio visual presentation as part of the production shot in beautiful locations around Ireland including Glendalough, The Curragh and Brittas Bay. “I am very excited about this project, it’s such an amazing story, it’s a privilege to have the artistic freedom to create my vision, exploring the drama and intrigue that was St. Brigids’ life. We are calling auditions for singers and dancers Ireland wide who would relish the opportunity to be part of this wonderful production, with choreography from Nicole Kavanagh and Musical Direction from Lisa Nagle, the level of talent and professionalism we expect will be phenomenal, add to this the eclectic score, dramatic dance and the on-stage presence of Rebecca Storm this production will please a huge cross section of theatre goers.”

Rebecca Storm (singing and acting the part of St. Brigids’ mother Broicsech) has captivated audiences for over 30 years establishing herself as one of the most popular leading ladies in musical theatre, playing some of the most demanding roles including Eva Peron in ‘Evita’, Fantine in ‘Les Miserables’ and numerous other quality productions said ”I am absolutely delighted to be singing the lead vocal role of Broicsech, in what will be a spectacular production. I love the music that has been chosen to tell the story of “The Cloak” and the dramatic setting of St. Brigids’ Cathedral”.

Both Padraig and Rebecca said that this is an opportunity for talented singers and dancers in Ireland to showcase their talents performing in a unique and original Irish production.

Anne Brain, Producer explained “The story of St. Brigid is a story of two remarkable women, St. Brigid and her mother Broicsech, both of whom endured extreme hardship, overcame these, did great works and went on to become an inspiration to thousands of people worldwide. With Rebecca Storm singing and acting the part of Broicsech, Pádraig J. Dunne as Director and St. Brigids’ Cathedral as the venue we have the right ingredients to present this story at the high level of professionalism it deserves!

‘the opening music cascades over the Cathedral, performed by the choir, the doors swing open and Celtic clad pirates pour through the doors of the Cathedral waving flags while others pull their ship to shore’ just one of the scenes from the stage-play “The Cloak” showcasing the life of a woman of our time Saint Brigid of Kildare incorporating the best singing and dancing talent on offer in Ireland.

Anne added “We are leaving our options open regarding our male lead, but the selection will enhance an already highly talented supporting cast, a spectacular light and a video production and music that will uplift the soul. It is our intention that “The Cloak” will evolve into one of the best stage-plays ever written and presented in Ireland, showcasing to the world the best quality talent Ireland has to offer”.

This event which is a contribution to the “Gathering” will benefit six Irish Charities with part proceeds going to Solas Bhride, Crumlin Children’s Hospital, Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland, Irish Cancer Society, Barnardos and the ISPCA.

National Pride of Place – Public Meeting

0

Help celebrate all that is good and unique about our town.

Kildare Town has been chosen to represent the County in the National Pride of Place competition for 2013.

There will be an information/public meeting on the 8 May at 7.30 pm in Kildare Heritage Centre (Market House), Market Square to explore how we as a community might showcase our town. All are welcome.

The competition focuses on how the community comes together to shape, change and enjoy what their local area has to offer. It can help galvanise our efforts to build an even stronger community. While it is a public meeting we would appreciate if each organisation could send even one representative.

Sometimes we cannot see the wood for the trees and we fail to appreciate how far we have come or how much is on offer. A recent comment by some UK visitors to the town (April 2013) testifies to just that, “Our first visit to Kildare was twenty years ago. [It] was in a bad state, closed and dreary. The Improvement to the town is incredible, excellent Square, easy parking, fresh and inviting. Kildare has vastly improved.”

None of the above would have been possible without the community coming together. Think of all the positive work happening through our public representatives, local sports clubs, festival committees, historic society, residents committees, tidy towns, volunteer and other agencies who are working together to move the town forward. Let us tell it to the world; we are proud of our town – 7.30 pm Wed. 8 May in Kildare Heritage Centre (Market House), Market Square.
