Kildare Chamber of Commerce A Year in Review final

Kildare Town is Officially the Cleanest in Ireland.

In January this year, Kildare Town won the award of Ireland’s cleanest town by the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) group.

The last time we entered, many years ago we placed 16th so this award is a true testament to the work that is tirelessly being done in Kildare to keep the town clean.

The Tidy Towns group in Kildare along with members of Kildare County Council do a Trojan job keeping our town looking beautiful along with the help of many other people in our community.

Kildare Town Wins Merit Award @ Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town Competition

At an awards ceremony in Roscommon Town yesterday evening, 7th December , Kildare Town won a merit award from Bank of Ireland for our entry to the Enterprise Town Competition.  This is a great honour, as just 6 merits were given out from 20 towns entries in four different counties.

In November this year, Solas Bhride hosted a presentation organised by the Kildare Chamber of Commerce to three judges from Bank of Ireland for the new initiative, Enterprise Town. The event was a real success and a true testament to the wider Kildare Town community. On the day, and on very short notice, many different business and community groups were represented and for their participation and very hard work, the Chamber would like to thank the following community groups, clubs, businesses and their representatives, you know who you are!

Three County Kildare pubs make the Michelin Guide.

The Ballymore Inn, in Ballymore Eustace, Fallon’s, Kilcullen and Harte’s of Kildare Town are all included in the prestigious guide.

The guide includes 32 different pubs that are spread across 15 counties in Ireland and Northern Ireland. With only Cork, Clare and Down getting more recommendations that Kildare, it is a great achievement and shows the talent in Kildare. Well done to all involved!

The annual Thoroughbred Run will take place this year on Father’s Day, Sunday 19th June.  This fun run-or-walk, which is supported by us here at The Chamber of Commerce among many other local businesses, will start from Market Square and take a 5k route around Kildare which cuts through the beautiful Irish National Stud.

Will Kildare Town benefit from the sale of Magee Barracks?

Last February 2016, Magee Barracks in Kildare Town sold to a mystery bidder at auction for €8.2million – a little above the guide price of just €2.5million. Before the auction Magee Barracks was in the ownership of The Department of Defence.

So, will Kildare Town benefit from it’s sale?

Well, the good news is that although it was a mystery bidder who bought the site, this was completed through BBF Capital Partners who have stated that the site was indeed bought by an Irish client who has “extensive property development experience”.  BBF Capital Partners will work with Kildare County Council to develop the site and The Councils’ development plan is quite clear about stating that anything built within the town must be a welcome addition (so no skyscrapers then!).

Financially, the town should also do well from this sale.  In 1998, the Department of Defence made a written agreement to Kildare Town that they will pass on some of the proceeds of the sale of Magee Barracks to the community. This should amount to €1.64million. It remains to be seen if this agreement will be honoured but we will certainly be watching the process and will keep you informed as to its progress.
